What is PCIT?
PCIT is a unique parent coaching experience for families with young children (ages 2-8). It has been shown to effectively reduce some of the following childhood behaviors:
- tantrums
- impulsivity
- power struggles
- sibling rivalry
- arguing/defiance
- aggression
- sassing/whining
- separation anxiety
- behavior problems at home or school
What sets PCIT apart from other parent coaching experiences?
With the goal of helping parents learn techniques to minimize battles and encourage positive behavior, I coach parents using a microphone and earpiece worn in a parent’s ear through a one-way mirror. Unlike other models where skills are taught in the office and practiced at a later time, PCIT assists parents in the moment to manage disruptive behaviors. Teaching parenting techniques from a positive and supportive environment, my clients increase opportunities to practice skills with live-time support.
PCIT is an Evidenced-Based Program
Outcome studies for PCIT have consistently demonstrated improvements in childhood behaviors and a decrease in overall parental stress. These gains are maintained long after counseling ends, and improvements in behavior are observed in both the child’s home and school environment.
